How we do Box Jumps at CrossFit Dallas Central
How we do Box Jumps at CrossFit Dallas Central

These past few months have been a whirlwind. I have been extremely blessed with a great opportunity and everyday the picture for CrossFit Beaumont is clearer as all the pieces fall into place. In the beginning of 2009 I had never heard of CrossFit; and now my life has made a complete 180 and I’m going to be opening a gym. Here’s what I’ve done so far.

  • Obtained 2 CrossFit Certifications (Level 1 and Gymnastics) with 3 more coming by December (Olympic Lifting, Running and Endurance, and Basic Barbell/Powerlifting).
  • Become a trainer at CFDC (although I’ll still be learning from the other coaches). I’m coaching about 6-10 hours a week and I’m in there on my own another 5-10 hours.
  • Started acquiring equipment for CFB. I found a great deal on Kettlebells so I picked up about 400lbs worth.
  • I’m constantly learning more about coaching, technique, programming, training methods, nutrition, and the business side of things.
  • Most importantly; I’m hearing from lots of people in the Beaumont area who are ready to get started!

My days are getting pretty busy. Waking up at 5:30am, gym at 6:00, home by 7:00 to shower and change, work by 8:00 (usually a little laterJ), back at the gym by 6:00pm and back home for dinner and sleep by 8:00pm. It doesn’t bother me because even though I’m busy for 14 hours straight I’m having so much fun doing it; minus the 8-5 part. I love waking up in the morning to go train (or when I’m lucky jump in with the 6am class). I can’t wait for 5:30 to roll around so I can go show a new athlete the fundamentals so they can jump into our group classes. I love it when I put a new athlete through a workout and they are lying flat on the ground gasping for air and I hear them say “Where do I sign up?”

CFDC is exploding. Even with 3 new coaches we are having trouble keeping up with all of the new athletes who want to go through the fundamentals classes so they can start working out at the box regularly. After attending one free Saturday workout these people get the “this is it” realization and in that moment our cult increases it’s membership. (I recently saw a CrossFit t-shirt with the slogan “Yeah it’s a cult; but a good one” and I thought it was great)
